- American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA)- The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) is the national professional, scientific, and credentialing association for 191,500 members and affiliates who are audiologists; speech-language pathologists; speech, language, and hearing scientists; audiology and speech-language pathology support personnel; and students.
Cerebral Palsy & Birth Injury
- Birth Injury Center is an advocacy center for youth with birth injuries. Our mission is to assist anyone who has been affected by a birth injury. Our website is a compilation of information around the different types of injuries. We offer resources to assist these families, and we will continuously be adding more. Cerebral Palsy is the most common motor disability for children and it affects 1 in every 345 kids. That's why we have information and resources specifically for those with CP and their families. STUTTERING:
- The Stuttering Foundation- The Stuttering Foundation of America's goal is to provide the best and most up-to-date information and help available for the prevention of stuttering in young children and the most effective treatment available for teenagers and adults.
BRAIN & NERVOUS SYSTEM
- National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS)- The mission of NINDS is to seek fundamental knowledge about the brain and nervous system and to use that knowledge to reduce the burden of neurological disease. NINDS provides Fact Sheets with an overview of a variety of disorders, including common symptoms, methods of diagnosis, and available therapies.
DEAFNESS & COMMUNICATION DISORDERS
- The National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD)-The NIDCD, part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), conducts and supports research in the normal and disordered processes of hearing, balance, taste, smell, voice, speech, and language. Numerous discoveries have expanded their knowledge base and led to improved diagnosis, treatment, and technology for people with communication disorders.
DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES
- The California Department of Developmental Services (DDS)- DDS works to ensure Californians with developmental disabilities have the opportunity to make choices and lead independent, productive lives as members of their communities in the least restrictive setting possible. Under the Lanterman Developmental Disabilities Services Act, DDS is responsible for overseeing the coordination and delivery of services and supports to more than 330,000 Californians with developmental disabilities including cerebral palsy, intellectual disability, Down syndrome, autism, epilepsy and related conditions. The state’s service system is designed to meet the needs and choices of individuals at each stage of their lives, and, to the extent possible, serve them in their home communities, providing choices that are reflective of lifestyle, cultural and linguistic backgrounds.

UNDER 3 YEARS OF AGE
- Alta California Regional Center- Alta California Regional Center (ACRC) is a private, non-profit corporation working under contract with the State of California, Department of Developmental Services, to provide services to persons, age three and above, with a developmental disability pursuant to the Lanterman Act. ACRC also provides services to infants and toddlers, between birth and 36 months, who have a need for early intervention services and who meet the eligibility criteria for the California Early Start program.

- The University of California-Davis MIND Institute- The UC Davis MIND (Medical Investigation of Neurodevelopmental Disorders) Insitute is a collaborative international research center, committed to the awareness, understanding, prevention, care, and cures of neurodevelopmental disorders.
APRAXIA
- The Childhood Apraxia of Speech Association (CASANA)- The Childhood Apraxia of Speech Association is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit publicly funded charity whose mission is to strengthen the support systems in the lives of children with apraxia so that each child is afforded their best opportunity to develop speech and communication.
RESOURCES FOR PARENTS
- Teach Me To Talk- Teach Me To Talk is a wonderful resource for both parents and professionals. This website is written by Laura Mize, a pediatric speech-language pathologist who specializes in treating young children, ages birth to three, with communication delays and disorders in her private practice. Resources includes her podcast, therapy articles, therapy manuals, DVDs, and in-person workshops. Laura strives to "take theory to the floor" and provides suggestions for building speech, language, and play skills using routines and play-based approaches.
Resources for Adults
HEAD TRAUMA
- The Head Trauma Support Project (HTSP)- The HTSP brings people together with a common goal of promoting better understanding, treatment and quality of life for those with brain injury. Through support groups, survivors and family members continue to gain peer support while participating in social activities and listening to guest lecturers. HTSP empowers individuals to improve their potential and lead fuller lives. Their support groups are facilitated by professionals, and draw families and survivors from Sacramento, Yolo, Placer and El Dorado counties.
SWALLOWING/EATING
- National Foundation of Swallowing Disorders- The National Foundation of Swallowing Disorder's objective is to provide patient hope and improve quality of life for those suffering from all types of swallowing disorders. By enhancing direct patient support, education, research and raising public, professional and governmental awareness, their mission is to advance the prevention and treatment of swallowing disorders in our lifetime.
LANGUAGE TECHNOLOGY
- Lingraphica- For 30 years, Lingraphica has researched and developed technology. The result is intuitive, easy-to-use devices and therapy and language apps, as well as online speech therapy services. With roots in aphasia research, Lingraphica expanded our products to help individuals find hope for improved communication. Today, they continue to develop solutions to help adults with speech, language, and cognitive disorders.
